Caring for Outdoor Wood Furniture
Outdoor wood is exposed to sun, rain and temperature changes. Regular care helps your hammock stand and patio furniture stay strong and attractive.
Regular Cleaning
- Brush off leaves, dirt and debris regularly
- Wash with a soft brush, mild soap and water a few times per season
- Rinse and let dry completely in the sun before covering or storing
- Avoid pressure washers, which can raise the grain and damage the finish
Protect From the Elements
- Use furniture covers during extended rain or when not in use
- Elevate legs and feet off standing water and wet ground
- Re-seal or re-oil the wood as recommended for your product, typically once or twice a year, to maintain water resistance
- Avoid prolonged direct sun where possible to slow color fading
Seasonal Storage
- Before winter or long periods without use, clean and dry the furniture thoroughly
- Store in a dry, ventilated place such as a garage or shed, or use a breathable cover
- Never store furniture wet or under a non-breathable tarp, which can trap moisture
Safety Checks
- Inspect bolts and connections at the start of each season and re-tighten as needed
- Check for cracks or rot, especially at joints and where wood touches the ground
- Never exceed the weight capacity listed in your product's size guide
Tip: Natural weathering to a soft silver-gray is normal for outdoor wood. Regular oiling helps preserve the original color longer.
